Wk 5 Tailgate Challenge - Cherry De-Lite Stromboli

Ingredients:

Stromboli-
1 - 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
1 - Pilsbury Pizza Crust
1 - Cherry De-Lite Cherry Pie Fill

Glaze-
4 oz softened cream cheese
1/2 cup unsalted butter
3/4 cup powdered sugar
2.5 tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Roll the pizza crust into a rectangular shape, and it is approximately 1/4 inch thick. Leave a clear border of 1 to 1.5 inches at the top and bottom, and on the sides.
  2. Spread the softened cream cheese on the pizza crust, covering it entirely.
  3. Spread the Cherry De-Lite Cherry Pie Fill down the center 1/3 of the pizza crust.
  4. Using a pizza cutter, sharp knife, or kitchen shears, cut parallel strips into the left and right thirds of the dough. The strips should be about 1 to 1.5 inches wide and can be angled for a chevron look or cut straight. Make sure you have an equal number of strips on both sides.
  5. Fold the top and bottom border pieces of the dough over the filling to seal the ends.
  6. Take the first strip from the top-right side and pull it diagonally over the filling. Then, take the first strip from the top-left side and fold it diagonally over the filling, overlapping the first strip.
  7. Continue this pattern, alternating between the right and left strips, overlapping them to create the braided effect all the way down the loaf.
  8. Tuck the last strips and any loose ends underneath the loaf and gently pinch to secure the braid.
  9. In a preheated 400° oven, bake the stromboli for 20 to 25 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cherry pie filling is bubbly and hot.

The Glaze:

  1. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth. Then add the powdered sugar, 2 Tablespoons of milk and vanilla. Beat just until combined. Do not over mix. 
  2. Taste and add a pinch of salt and more vanilla if desired. Add a Tablespoon more of milk at a time until reach desired consistency. If you want it to drip down a dessert, you'll need a little more. If you want it thicker, use less or add a Tablespoon more of powdered sugar.
  3. Place mixed glaze in microwave and warm briefly and pour the glaze on top of the stromboli
  4. Sprinkle with cinnamon if desired.
